Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Titanic & Fashion

The last dance

The Theatermachine was responsible for the lighting design and implementation of the exhibition Titanic & Fashion – the last dance. Together with designer Maarten Spruyt and curator Madelief Hohรฉ, each room has been given its own theme and atmosphere, all based on the famous Titanic story.

Costumes from the movie Titanic are on display alongside fashion from around the 1910s. This was a special time when women were freed from their corsets. The fashion is elegant and full of details, with supple fabrics and transparent layers.

The exhibition is not only about fashion from the early 1900s, but also features contemporary designers who have an affinity with the theme and the period. According to curator Madelief Hohรฉ, the zeitgeist surrounding the Titanic bears many similarities to our own time: a great deal of confidence in technology, migration movements, and the threat of war.

The exhibition will be on display from September 27, 2025, to January 25, 2026, at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag.
