A musical showcase to revel in as well as the ultimate breakup therapy
In Cry me, six people – each in their own stage of heartbreak – meet weekly to heal their broken hearts under the inspiring guidance of a musician. They relive the moment of breaking up, sing of their exes’ mistakes and practice loving letting go.
Heart of Light
For Cry-Me, Benno Barends created an enchanting “Heart of Light” with his innovative lighting design. Together with set designer Tim Vermeulen, a futuristic therapy room was created, imbued with an almost magical atmosphere. This spatial artwork served as an interactive supplement for the actors, with changing light images transforming the space and amplifying the emotional intensity.
Benno’s dynamic light heart, prominently positioned above the actors, acted as the epic center of the performance. Combined with thoughtful musical elements, the therapy room became a soothing oasis where “trainees” could express their inner heartache in their own unique way. The whole thing offered an immersive experience in which the boundaries between reality and imagination blurred.
